Not sure how to send a photo?
Here are some general instructions for scanning and sending photos. If you have already saved the image/photo skip to # 11.

1. Open your scanner program (i.e. iPhoto Plus, Page Manager, VistaScan, etc.) either by double-clicking an icon on your desktop or clicking on the shortcut in your Start->Programs menu.

2. Place the item you want scanned on the scanner (face down). Usually placing the item in the corner or the top center of the scanner glass.

3. Click the scan button on your program or on the scanner for select models of scanners. If you cannot find a scan button or are uncertain, you can usually click on File / Acquire Image or File / Aquire and the proper scanner window will open.

4. Click on the Preview button (if applicable). This lets the scanner "look" at what's on the glass without actually placing the image into a file or in memory.

5. Most scanner programs automatically place a dashed box around the image or the entire scanning area. What is inside this box is what will actually go into the image, it even includes the scanner's lid. Resize the box or draw a new box around the area you want to scan. If the text or image is on a large piece of paper, just draw/resize the box around that select area using the curser.

6. For those that are advanced, a resolution of 150 is sufficient for most items. For those that do not know how to change these settings, choose Color Photo for pictures or Printed Material for text.

7. Press the Scan button (it should be somewhere in that window). Allow the scanner to warm up if necessary to get a good image. It's best if you are not doing anything else while it scans to ensure there are no errors in the scanning process.

8. Click Close or Exit on the Preview window (not the entire program). If the main scanning program appears with the image, you can close the scanner portion later.

9. If you wish to edit the image any, you may do so here.

10. To save the picture, click File / Save As... Give the picture a name. For file type, choose JPEG (*.JPG) format. BE SURE to save it somewhere where you can REMEMBER where to find it.

11. To send the file, open your email program. Click New Message / New Email and be sure to put in my address.

12. Click the Attachment button. This normally is in the form of a paperclip icon. Under the File or Message menu, there may also be an Attach File choice.

13. Browse to the location where you saved the image. Choose file (OPEN). Under file type choose .jpg if possible. Then attach the file.
If you can't seem to find your photo/file, you can go to Start -> Find -> Files or Folders and search from there. Take note of the folder location it displays if and when it finds the file.

14. Send the email. Allow plenty of time for the file to send, for images tend to take up an enormous amount of space for email transfers.
